Goals and objectives
The Climate Change and Integrated Natural Resources Management programme is specifically designed to cater for the needs of experienced managers, planners, policy makers, prospective scientists/lecturers and students who wish to enhance and develop research/teaching skills and competences in integrated natural resources management consistent with current and emerging needs in the climate change arena. The focus is to offer both experienced and less experienced students the opportunity to obtain a high level practically-oriented training in multi-scale and multi-disciplinary approaches to planning, research, teaching, use and management of natural resources for development in a rapidly changing climate in developing countries’ context. The practically-oriented teaching and learning methods develop employability and entrepreneurship as well as equip learners to think and act creatively both in industry, research and teaching. Upon completion of this programme, graduates will:
- Possess advanced theoretical and applied knowledge pertaining to natural resources management and climate change;
- Be equipped to either teach in tertiary institutions (Polytechnics and Universities) or become research scientists;
- Acquire knowledge on innovative ways and the role of technologies in management of natural resources in addressing climate change;
- Acquire knowledge on how to generate innovative ideas to inspire the development relevant for transformation of economies of developing countries in the face of climate change;
- Demonstrate in-depth understanding on key issues balancing economic production and environmental sustainability;
- Apply problem-solving skills and competencies in climate change adaptation and mitigation;
- Demonstrate good oral and written communications skills, ability to work effectively both independently and in a team, and good knowledge of work and human values;
- Prepare their continuing professional development plan towards lifelong learning, research, teaching and generation of new ideas and findings.
