Dr. Jewel Andoh is a Research Scientist with the Forest Policy, Governance, and Livelihood Division and Secretary of the Research Staff Association. He is also an External Examiner at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He holds a Ph.D. in Regional Development (Forest Policy and Economics) from Yeungnam University, Republic of Korea.
Dr. Andoh’s research interests span REDD+, forest policy and economics, forest governance and management, agroforestry, environmental sustainability, climate change, and livelihood improvement. He specializes in interdisciplinary research, applying qualitative and quantitative techniques to gather and analyze data to inform decision-making.
Dr. Andoh has been involved in several local and international multidisciplinary projects and consultancies centered on forestry and natural resource management. His extensive engagement with diverse stakeholders at national, regional, and local levels has advanced critical forest-related initiatives supported by leading government agencies, non-governmental organizations, and international corporations such as UNDP, IUCN, the World Bank, Ghana Forestry Commission, Tropenbos Ghana, and the Korea Forest Service.
Through his efforts, he has successfully forged powerful partnerships across the agriculture, forestry, and land use (AFOLU) sectors in Ghana. Jewel has taken the initiative to organize impactful stakeholder engagement and partnership-building activities, directly addressing the pressing issues of deforestation and promoting sustainable land-use practices. Notably, he contributed to the development of social inclusion indicators for the Enhancing Access to Benefits while Lowering Emission (EnABLE) Project in Ghana for the World Bank. Furthermore, he distinguished himself as a thematic expert in the third-party monitoring of the Ghana Cocoa Forest REDD+ Program Benefit Sharing Plan Implementation for the World Bank, underscoring his commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
Jewel is sociable, hardworking, committed, and results-oriented. He is willing to use his skills and expertise to help institutions address the unprecedented challenges faced by people, businesses, and governments worldwide. Dr. Andoh is passionate about fostering economic growth and development in rural communities in developing countries while ensuring environmental protection. He has authored many refereed journal articles and contributed to numerous consultancies and research projects, resulting in several technical and consultancy reports.
